We\'re proud to present our new Saturday night disco. Each week Jon from FC/Kahuna and This Time of Night will be joined by friends from the wide, weird and wonderful world of electronic music for an evening of dancing drinking and falling over

The only music policy we have is that we don\'t have one; if it\'s good and makes you wanna dance is all that matters to us.

An accomplished and varied crew of top DJ talent will be joining in to make sure the party\'s always on. Expect the likes of (in no particular order) Paul \'Phones\' Epworth, Ashley Beedle, Cagedbaby, Nathan Detroit, Barry Ashworth, Richard Norris, Justin Robertson, Dan Lywood, Jon Abblett and many more.

As one half of FC/Kahuna, Jon is one of the true pioneers of electronic dance music and has an impressive body of work behind him. The critically acclaimed FC/Kahuna album, \'Machine Says Yes\', went on to sell over 50,000 copies and includes such landmark tracks as \'Glitterball\', \'Hayling\' and the title track itself.

As a DJ Jon has helped to create three of the most memorable London clubs of the last 10 years. The legendary Big Kahuna Burger from 1995 featured many of today\'s biggest names in music including The Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim and Death In Vegas.

Headstart at Turnmills followed in 1999, a truly groundbreaking club experience that championed forward thinking electronic music. Dave Clarke, Andrew Weatherall, Josh Wink and Justin Robertson each joined Jon as monthly residents and Headstart provided the blueprint for many of the tech-edged nights out there.

Up next was 21st Century Bodyrockers in collaboration with Damian Lazarus and the City Rockers label, and once again Jon was at the forefront of pushing new music; Soulwax, Tiga and James Murphy from LCD Soundsystem all appeared here long before becoming the massive acts they are today.

Jon is currently in the studio working on his \'This Time Of Night\' project and has recently completed remixes for Mika, Ali Love, The Rumble Strips and Armand Van Helden.

\"Just a voice, a guitar, and some of the most spellbinding words youll hear anywhere.\" [Mojo]

Diane Cluck is a New York-based singer-songwriter affiliated with the Anti-folk scene centred around open mic nights at the Sidewalk Cafe. She has recorded five albums since 2001. Her music is more sophisticated than many artists\' of the genre, played using acoustic guitar, piano, organ and xylophone.

Her influences are specific: Kate Bush, Chopin (when she used to play classical) and early twentieth century composer Erik Satie. She appreciates his very beautiful minimalist piano stuff, works that he is most famous for and are among her favorites. She is lately occupied in creating \"skeletons,\" of songs, songs that are actually capable of standing up and walking around with as little adornment as possible. Her current body of work she considers very wordy: lots of words and too many notes.

Her song \'Monte Carlo\' appeared on the Rough Trade compilation \'Anti Folk Volume 1\' in 2001 alongside other luminaries of the scene. She has collaborated with both Jeffrey Lewis and Herman Düne in the past.
Her album \'Oh Vanille / Ova Nil\' ended up #2 underground album of the year in Mojo magazine 2005.

Barry Bliss - supporting - was born in the \'60s to a woman that sang a lot and a man that fished and climbed water towers. He never wanted for anything and was much loved. His mother later bought him his first 12-string. He later quit music and lived hiding in the woods and getting his food out of grocery store dumpsters. He then stopped doing that, returned to music, and became the living legend that he is today. Hey-Ho.

Opening is Beth Jeans Houghton. Effortlessly constructing experimental, wonky folk-pop from her secret Newcastle base, Beth cites Nico, Simon & Garfunkel and Frank Zappa as influences.\"

There are many places this biography of The Hours could begin. It could begin in Sheffield, at the fag end of punk, where a ten-year old Ant Genn is standing at the stage door of The Top Rank waiting for The Clash to turn up so he can grab Joe Strummer\'s autograph. Then again, it could begin in 1999 as Ant Genn settles into a swivel chair as he clocks in for day one producing Joe Strummer\'s solo album.

It could start across the Pennines, in the early \'80s, where another \"Northern lad\", Martin Slattery, is carving a reputation as a prodigious teenage jazz pianist and saxophonist player, performing in Manchester\'s Working Men\'s clubs alongside his dad, an organist. Or it could kick off in the back of a tour bus in 1995, somewhere on Planet Earth, where Slattery is earning a living as the (still prodigiously) talented keyboardist in Shaun Ryder\'s Black Grape, living life to its very fullest in any number of places. But not getting much sleep. For two years...

\'God Bless The Ottoman Empire\', taken from AHAAH\'s third album, The Way The Wind Blows, will be released as a digital download only single in mid-September, and the group will be recording sessions for Rob Da Bank\'s BBC Radio 1 show and Stuart Maconie\'s FreakZone on BBC 6 Music.

With rings on their fingers and bells on their toes they skip before the whooping audience with multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Barnes - best known as the drummer for Neutral Milk Hotel - on accordion, vocals and percussion (simultaneously!) accompanied by Heather Trost on violin, glockenspiel and melodica. They make joyous gypsy song cycles that reel effortlessly across the most varied of terrain, dipping in and out of modern composition and American and Eastern European folk traditions.

A kind of wandering minstrel for the digital ageabsorbing, exuberant (and) sensitive [Q Magazine]
Word of mouth and a slew of special appearances have ensured AHAAH a cult status and make them down right special.

A tense, atmospheric album (that) blends mariachi, folk and a dozen other global influencesBarnes has a masterly knack of reining in such a myriad range of music. [Music Week]

Although it absorbs characteristics from various traditions, Barness music retains an otherworldly quality that gives his compositions a markedly strange hue. \'Darkness At Noon\' works because it doggedly pursues its convictions through to a satisfying conclusion and in doing so creates its own kind of offbeat logic. Supporting is Men Diamler. Reconfiguring soul music through west country lo-fi operatics, this is a young man who will not be tamed by the powers that be. Sweet and darkness have never sounded so close or so intense in such performer. He has supported John Parish, Scout Niblett, Tony Allen, and Josephine Foster but despite his tender age he is a channel for old thyme ways - footstompin\' blues, two string serenades, backwoods weirdness, horse stories and pagan folk all get exorcised. Psychosis never sounded this good.

Opening is Benjamin Wetherill, an enchanting national treasure from Leeds. A measured songwriter who has an otherworldly delivery, a gentle guitar player who also plays a fine ukulele. There is a hint of romantic musical hall and pastoral folk blues about him, his songs sounding innocent and old at the same time.

Extraordinarily varied and spellbindingly intense sound projections from this vocals/harp/drums duo, soaring to spontaneous, scorching highs one moment and then plunging into heartbeat rhythms and drones the next. Vinnie Blackwalls background in early music alongside her willingness to drift into the primitive wail is a stunning combination, while drummer Alex Neilson (Tight Meat Duo / Bonnie \'Prince\' Billy / Motor Ghost) seems to be on the eternal quest for the rainbow synthesis of free jazz with folk traditions and with this project has given himself the freedom to glow all colours.

You might not recognise the name Michael Fakesch straight away, but you´ve surely heard of his former band Funkstörung (which was highly regarded for the numerous remixes for Bjork, Wu-Tang Clan, Jean-Michel Jarre, Lamb, Nils Petter Molvaer, Speedy J, etc.).

Main support, we\'re very, very, very pleased to announce, is Oorutaichi from Tokyo, inspired by The Residents, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Aphex Twin and Dancehall Reggae. His recordings were multi-tracked improvisations using real instruments, toys and voice, evolving to composed songs using midi triggered instrumentation, but always composed, played, sung, and mixed entirely by Oorutaichi.

The strong melodies, wide-ranging beats and freestyle chorus work create an original sound that could almost be traditonal music from a fictitous country.

As the first signings to ex Bad Seed/Magazine and David Lynch collaborator Barry Adamson\'s Central Control art-house, Strings of Consciousness are made up of over a dozen members hailing from Marseille, France, via London, Paris and Chicago, coming on like a latter-day Talk Talk collaborating with Angelo Badalamenti

Their debut album \'Our Moon Is Full\' is released on September 10th; a record of emotionally charged, experimental and deeply hypnotic pieces. Using their manifesto of uniting acoustic instrumentation and human sensibility with digital technology, the group were able to draft in many talented musicians from across the globe via the Internet, including guest vocalists Jim Thirlwell (Foetus), Eugene Robinson (Oxbow), Scott McCloud (Girls Against Boys) and more. The result: a cohesive, warm, lush, harmonious collection of pieces, feeling as if they live and breathe-in the same air.

Members of Strings Of Consciousness come from, and have worked with, such luminaries as The Macé Ensemble, Bob Mould, the Sea and Cake, Soft Machine, Frank Black, Robert Wyatt, David Thomas 2 Pale Boys/Pere Ubu, Spaceheads and Deviationists, in addition to having run two of Frances premier independent labels, Pandemonium (Unsane, Cerberus Shoal and more) and BiP_HOp (Erik Friedlander, Rothko, Scanner and more).

The group have also been given the honour of being the only band to feature a new composition on the acclaimed My Brightest Diamond remix album \"Tear It Down\", which was released worldwide on Sufjan Stevens Asthmatic Kitty label in early 2007 to mass critical acclaim.

In support are Viarosa and Rothko. More on them soon, but we\'re very pleased to welcome both back.

In 2001 a band emerged from Denton, Texas with one of the most awe-inspiring debuts in recent memory. The band was Lift To Experience and their record was entitled \'The Texas-Jerusalem Crossroads\', a concept album about the end of the world where Texas is the Promised Land, and a record so epic and evangelical it almost made even the staunchest non-believers think there might really be a higher power.

The bands leader was the charismatic and enigmatic Josh T Pearson, son of a southern preacher who grew up listening to endless sermons of fire and brimstone. Giant Sand\'s Howe Gelb presents a very special and exclusive solo show, based around the songs of his new album, and he\'s written to us to tell you what it\'s all about.

\"Hello. I have put off putting out a tour-only type CD because I didnt want to stock it with out-takes or scrapheap supplement. After \'Sno Angel\' it seemed like a bar was raised, or I just finally got too old for wasting any time, mine or yours.

Thøger Lund sat in on upright bass and Joe Novelli stopped by the house to slip some slide. The Room was built out of adobe blocks, always a sound design. I played an old 1959 Martin 00 E that my wife got me for my 50th birthday. It feels like I always have had it, which might have to do with the notion that we were both made in Pennsylvania in the \'50s and ended up here in the desert.

For the second session, Jim Blackwood suggested we try going back to where Rainer Ptacek recorded a record 15 years ago; the San Pedro Chapel. It is also the place we held his memorial 10 years ago just after his death. I had not been back since. Being in there again made me dizzy. I could not really think in terms of this world. The walls are also made of adobe, which is a substance I have grown to favor for making any kind of sounds.

Here we were back at San Pedro. The air was thick was Rainerism. First I picked up my old national Duolian and let my heart slide out for him. On that one, Thøger just played a sound he came up with on his new-old-cheap-tiny-Casio-sampler-thing from a thrift shop. It reminded me how Rainer used to loop himself while playing way before there were real loop pedals. That song was The Burning of The Sonic Sage\', I suppose, then it was back to the Martin for other songs that were still arriving.

Thøger is my favorite bass player ever. That boy breathes music. He cant help it. We locked into some grooves that were impossible to conjure without percussion or drums. But they happened anyway.

Some songs were old and desperately wanted a dusting off. Other songs happened to just be there waiting for a bus. And some others wanted in even though they had not been written yet. I tried to pick the ones with the most event in them. I suppose at this age its good to hear something just acoustic and drumless. Some days it gets very hard to play music. There is a tragedy that gets attached to it all that tends to weigh down the process. Other times we bust on through that gravity and thrive on its buoyancy. Busting a hole though gravity is always a good idea for as long as it lasts.

Texas Music Hall-of-Famer Freddie Steady Krc comes by his name honestly. This renaissance Texan has pounded out a steady beat on the drums around the world and across miles and miles of Texas for the past several decades. Krc (rhymes with search) landed in Austin at the precise moment that a musical revolution was getting started at a styles-dont-matter joint called the Armadillo World Headquarters.

The kid and the town were a perfect match, because he loved as many styles of music as the Dillos hippies and rednecks. His first love was rock and roll, which had first found its way into his native Southeast Texas by way of the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show. By the time he hit Austin, he was also passionate about the Tex-Mex mix of the Sir Douglas Quintet (his first concert), the psychedelic sounds of rock innovators like the 13th Floor Elevators, and the soulful folk of singer/songwriters like B. W. Stevenson and Jerry Jeff Walker.

It all worked out pretty good for Freddie Steady, because his career would soon cross paths with each of these artists, all while fueling his own creative musical ideas as a songwriter, drummer, guitarist, and singer. Krc appeared on Austin City Limits during its first season as B.W. Stevensons drummer, and he would soon begin a long run as the rhythmic foundation for Jerry Jeff Walker, with whom he would work on more than a dozen albums and log thousands of miles.

Session drumming along the way included studio work with everyone from Jimmie Dale Gilmore to Carole King, Pink Floyds Roger Waters to The Faces Ronnie Lane. With his own power pop trio, The Explosives, Freddie Steady set his drums right up next to the guitar and bass of band mates, Cam King and Waller Collie (who says drummers cant be out front and singing leady) Only in Austin could you see someone like Krc drumming in a cowboy club with Jerry Jeff one night, then singing in a punk rock club with the Explosives the next night. Krc took front and center on the guitar with his country band, Freddie Steadys Wild Country, and his Western folk rock outfit, The Shakin Apostles, but his earliest and purest rock and roll tendencies all come together in his latest and greatest incarnations: The Freddie Steady 5 and the revival of his Explosives.

The Freddie Steady 5 [minus one tonight] has been his most personal project to date, a vehicle for the kind of British rock and Texas roll that had first captured his imagination as a kid. And simultaneously, Krc and Cam King have re-energized The Explosives to serve as Roky Ericksons band in the 13th Floor Elevator front mans triumphant return the stage. In each of these incarnations, he brings influence from his heroes, but he creates a sound and a body of work that is uniquely his own.

My Brightest Diamond is Shara Worden, granddaughter of an Epiphone-playing traveling evangelist, fathered by a National Accordion Champion, and mothered by a church organist.

Spanish tango, Sunday morning gospel, classical and jazz were the accompaniment to her home life. Her first song was recorded at age three and by age eight she was studying piano, performing in community musical productions and singing in her Pentecostal church choir, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, where she spent most of her childhood.

Shara honed her musical prowess singing along to Whitney Houston music videos and Mariah Carey albums. Wanting to explore the voice more deeply, she enrolled in the music program at the University of North Texas, immersing herself in the songs of Purcell and Debussy. After college, she moved to New York City and fell in love with its cold winters and busy streets.

She continued to study opera on the Upper West Side during the day, but at night she frequented downtown clubs such as Tonic, Knitting Factory, and The Living Room, catching performances by Antony & The Johnsons, Nina Nastasia, and Rebecca Moore. She began to spend less time sight-reading Mozart and more time de-tuning her Gibson electric guitar to play her own newly-written songs.

On the small stages of Lower East Side bars and clubs, Shara assembled a coterie of musicians to accompany her with bass and drums, music boxes, wine glasses, and wind chimes.

In 2005, Shara began work on two records: one featuring songs accompanied by a string quartet (A Thousand Shark\'s Teeth), and a more standard rock album featuring a full band (with Earl Harvin on drums, Chris Bruce on bass, a string trio and, on one song, her father Keith on accordion) titled \'Bring Me The Workhorse\', which was released on August 22nd, 2006 on Asthmatic Kitty Records.

Seventeen Evergreen are an Eno-obsessed San Francisco-based duo - Caleb Pate and Nephi Evans - whose acclaimed debut album \'Life Embarrasses Me On Planet Earth\' (a record obsessed with the universe, science-fiction and lamenting the mundanity of the working world) is a rich psychedelic blend of Boards Of Canada, My Bloody Valentine, early Pink Floyd and Pavement.

Kyte offer main support; a youthful five-piece from Leicestershire who mix the glacial soundscapes of Sigur Rós with the electronica of Caribou. Their debut single, a double A-side featuring the epic \'Planet\' and an amazing mix of \'Secular Ventures\' by Maps, is released on Sonic Cathedral Recordings on September 24.

Hush Arbors is Keith Wood, Virginia native and sometime member of Six Organs Of Admittance and Sunburned Hand Of The Man, who mixes delicate folky fingerpicking with moments of visceral psychedelia.

Headlining will be 27-year-old Hafdis Huld. She\'s been produced (in a musical sense) by the same genius-level knob twiddlers and writers as the Arctic Monkeys and Sneaker Pimps and she\'s also played with Icelandic dance legends GusGus, achieving a career high of being No.1 in Mexico in the process.

Add this musical pedigree to the fact that she has a voice that\'s cuter than kittens and songs that stick in your head for longer than most New Years Eve celebrations, and it\'s not surprising that her debut UK album \'Dirty Paper Cup\' attracted comments such as \"deliciously skewed pop\" (The Guardian), \"an irresistible album\" (The Fly) and \"sublime - charismatic story telling pop of the highest quality\" (Clash magazine)

Jan Mayen are releasing their second album \'So Much Better Than Your Normal Life\" and will be touring in the UK this September. They are undoubtedly one of Iceland\'s best inde rock bands. Their music has been described as a combination of loud rock with pop and noise influences and critics have said their music sounds something like Sonic Youth, Minute Men, The Strokes, The Ramones, The Rapture, Pretty Girls Make Graves and Liars.

Motion Boys are the latest hype in Iceland. This dynamic duo is joined on stage by members of Trabant and Mínus, and despite the lack of a record label their infectious electro-pop songs have been making a splash on the airwaves in Iceland the past months.

All of these bands will also be appearing at the Iceland Airwaves festival held in Reykjavik in October.

There was a big debate as to whether the millions of other galaxies in the universe were accelerating away from each other or moving away at a constant rate, or whether they were actually coming back in on themselves. The scientists originally thought that everything would eventually come back in on itself and implode, but what\'s actually happening is that they are accelerating away at a rate of Six by Seven.

\"Model Morning are a dynamic cacophony of soundscape guitars and soaring vocals, with a stomping, inventive rhythm section as their anchor. The guitar influence makes many references to \'80s shoegaze bands, but they achieve a more accessible sound and display more ability to craft epic songs than the majority of their predecessors in that genre.

They are unpretentious stadium rock if such a thing can be said to exist. The songs are in places hooky, dark, bitter and pained and they use long crescendos to great effect, building songs from almost nothing to blistering walls of noise and harmony.

Best album of 2006y! Shoegaze fans: sit up, take note, and dive right in. Thick blurs of guitars, soft-spoken vocals, beautiful orchestrations, sheets of reverb and distortion.\" This is what tonevendor said about Stockholm\'s Heaviness\' debut album from last year. This will be their debut UK show.

Having begun in Pennsylvania and ended up in North London, indie/chamber rock sextet The Outside Royalty have a nice collection of airmiles. Their contagious sound seems to give everyone a little bit of melodic love, and they\'ve gigged with Juliet & The Licks, Spinto Band and The Shins. And Babyshambles. And they survived. As the-mag said, \"...with such a strong and tight musical backing, it\'s a positively storming number, with wave after wave of crashing orchestration. You must get hold of this\".

Keeping with the royal theme, Royal Treatment Plant are jumping out of the blocks with a new single on the horizon and some new tunes to showcase. Having made it to the final 20 in Camden Crawl\'s Indie Idle and providing support for The Sounds on their Club NME tour over the last few months, Princess P\'s steamroller takeover of the missionary\'s-daughter-goes-rock storms on. TimeOut reckons, \'pumped up and catchy\'. Understated but correct.

Coming together from around the globe, namely California, Texas and Canada, Little Death formed a year ago and are currently based in south east London. With influences ranging from the psychedelic movement to the surrealist movement, to the movement to Camden for a nice thai buffet, the band sound something between post-punk riot and post-rock glam. We like them a lot.
