Currently immersed in recording her follow-up to the glorious \'Don\'t Let Stars Keep Us Tangled Up\', acclaimed Nashville chanteuse <a href=\"http://www.myspace.com/cortneytidwell\"target=_new\">Cortney Tidwell is taking a break in order to appear at this special Ever Records night. This will be her only London show for 2007.

\'Giddy vocals, etheral drama and starburst guitars. 4/5\' (The Times)

\'An exhilarating debut from an irrefutably original new talent.\' (Mojo)

\'Gorgeous.\' (NME)

Cortney makes music of fascinating beauty: staggering, desolate, country infused laments sprinkled with subtle flourishes of electronics; skeletal, eerie, haunting structures that reach out far beyond their geographic roots. And her voice is even more remarkable, a thing of magic, an arresting and vulnerable instrument that recalls the likes of Leslie Feist, Hope Sandoval and Liz Fraser whilst maintaining a character all its own.

\'Tidwell\'s debut is a banquet for fans of spine-tingling voices carried aloft by ambitious, reach-for-the-skies arrangements\' **** (Uncut)

\'Unsettles and unnerves in a way that recalls Gillian Welch if Sigur Ros were her backing band. 4/5\' (Q)

Cortney\'s debut mini album was released in the UK only in March 2006. Her debut full length album \'Don\'t Let Stars Keep Us Tangled Up\' was recorded during the second half of 2005 in Nashville, and features guest appearances from Kurt Wagner and William Tyler of Lambchop, Jonathon Marx (a former founder member of Lambchop) and Ryan Norris of Nashville electronic act Hands Off Cuba. It was co-produced by Tidwell and her husband Todd.

\'One of the greatest and most original sets of songs to be released this year.\' (The Sunday Times)

\'Celestial harmonies tangle round her haunting voice in songs that seethe with darkness. As eerie as it is exciting.\' (The Guardian)

\'Look out world: Cortney Tidwell is shockingly talented.\' (Touch, Alternative Album of the Month, 5/5)

Support comes from Ungdomskulen, the latest addition to the eclectic Ever Records roster. Their music is timeless because it is bigger than time. It’s monumental, epic, glorious and colossal. It’s disciplined, out of control, uncategorisable, definitive. We once called it “the sound of Steve Albini playing progrock disco”. That doesn’t even come close - we’ve also seen words like Black Sabbath, Can, Frank Zappa, The Melvins, The Jesus Lizard, Sonic Youth, Fugazi, Public Image Ltd, The Fall and The Cure thrown around – but it’s the best we can do right now.

\"Ungdomskulleny” a Norwegian journalist said to us recently. “Man, that band practices hard.”

Free copy of Cobra Dukes\' single to all paying customers.

More on and Futurecop soon.

Cobra Dukes are no ordinary band. Ghostly synthesisers and bubbling Moog lines weave through their songs while the drums punch like lost tape loops from Cat People or Midnight Express.

Kyle Gibson’s dramatic vocal hooks rebound off the rhythms like a Psycho Killer-era David Byrne shouting down CBGBs before Lucas Gianello’s guitarisms takes hold and teleport you into new wave delirium. Think of your favourite band and then think again, because there isn’t one that sounds like these guys.
But why take my word for ity “I love it,” says Mylo of one of the remixes on their first single, “it\'s as good as anything I\'ve heard this year.\"

Like the soundtrack to a lost John Hughes movie, the music of Manz, Manchester’s finest - and main support tonight - Futurecop is a heady mix of synthesisers, teenage crushes, power chords and alcohol. Imagine Kavinsky had the kind of younger brother that was always looking to start something and you’re there.

Sick of supplying the chat to the tired playlists at Radio 1 in Scotland, Gill Mills, back in September 2005, moved to London, set up iCast and delivered the UK’s first, fully licensed music podcast. Nearly two years and over 100 podcasts later, Gill has provided iPod-ease to the likes of Bloc Party, the Cribs and Patrick Wolf while her Best of Myspace podcasts at www.icast.uk.com are a web A&R resource second to none.

Marcus Lancaster is a legend is his own lunchbox. He has produced Cobra Dukes, Man Like Me, Ed Laliq, amongst others. His favourite song of all time is, worryingly, by Bonnie Tyler.

prestel.tv is the new company from Breastfed Records (Mylo/Linus Loves) and Glasgow Underground (Romanthony/Idjut Boys) founder Kevin McKay. Leave The Light On” is the first in a series of parties featuring the label’s artists & friends.

\"What with not neing able to lower the right leg for more than ten minutes at a time we\'ve decided to rope in the one and only Joe Daniel to play bass until the healing process completes it\'s work. To avoid jumping straight into the deep end in Tokyo next week we\'ve decided to break in both the leg and Joe Daniel this Saturday night at Luminaire in London, with special guest DJs and mateys.\"

\"Direct, delightful, bizarre and dynamic.\" [Filter]

Fog is an avant-rock and roll unit comprised of three: Andrew Broder (Guitar), Tim Glenn (Drums) and Mark Erickson (Bass). Since it\'s self-titled release in 2001, Fog\'s sound has never stopped moving. Subsequent albums \'Ether Teeth\' and \'10th Avenue Freakout\', along with various EPs, side projects and remixes, have all garnered critical acclaim and solidified Fog\'s reputation as an act constantly pushing the envelope of song, texture and word.

Fog uses and abuses all types of disparate genres: out rock, classic pop, primitive electronics, pretty folk songs, white noise, drones, metal, \"Golden Era\' rap references, among other things. But mostly, this is rock and roll music. Dark and engaging, holding a mirror up to the absurdities and discomforts of our time, weaving inner turmoil into the broader fabric of global instability.

“American rock at it’s experimental best.” [Q]

Fog\'s latest, \'Ditherer\', is their most focused and powerful work to date. Ditherer is the first Fog record to feature a full-time band, giving Broder\'s songs new depth, structural integrity and wider resonance. The music has become more immediate and visceral. Ditherer also features guest artists Low, Whyy, Andrew Bird, Phil Elverum (Mount Eerie), Pedestrian and Dosh.

\"Genius.\" [Mojo]

Fog has toured extensively in North America and Europe, sharing stages along the way the likes of Deerhoof, Notwist, Yo La Tengo, Wilco, Low, Rhys Chatham, Kid Koala, Christian Marclay, Magnolia Electric Co., Subtle, Whyy and many others.

“A group teetering on the precipice of greatness...Imagine cLOUDDEAD jamming with Wilco, with David Lynch producing and you\'re only halway there.\" [The Wire]

Main is “one of the most visionary solo artists in the world today.” [Drowned In Sound]

Napoleon IIIrd is a one-man band currently residing in Wakefield. One of a new breed of solitary songsmiths, he forgoes the strummed confessionals of the typical singer-songwriter in favour of summery experimentation and wry observations on modern life.

“The Leeds based king of his own melodious empire… rippling electronic puddles and muddy swirls of flotsam… good people of this realm.\" [Plan B]

Recorded after several years of regular live performances and two limited, sold-out EPs (released on Leeds based Dance to the Radio and Brainlove Records), ‘In Debt To:’, Napoleon IIIrd’s debut album, displays a meticulously refined sound, both lo-fi and stunningly complex in its production; behind the ragged vocals and strummed acoustic guitar lie swirling layers of brass and humming organs.

\"A fine album\" [Dazed & Confused]

As a fixture of the north’s live circuit, his performances are noted for their uniqueness. Shows are sometimes conducted in surround sound and he often plays three instruments at once, backed with an imposing reel-to-reel tape player, or sometimes with his infectiously joyful backing band. He also headlined the Unsigned Stage at Leeds Festival 2006, accompanied by a band and brass section.

\"Puts so much heart and soul into every verse, chorus and middle eight that you need a defibrillator... this is not merely an excellent record, it\'s a manifesto.\" [Artrocker]

Part of a burgeoning scene in Yorkshire, which has recently produced ¡Forward, Russia! and iLiKETRAiNS (both of which he has collaborated with, providing a remix for the b-side of ¡Forward, Russia!’s Top 40 single, Eighteen), he will soon appear on a ‘Sounds of Leeds’ television programme.

\"An extraordinarily good record.\" [Whisperin\' & Hollerin\' - 9/10]

Napoleon IIIrd however stands somewhat apart from his Leeds-based peers, creating lush pop in the vein of The Beach Boys, The Flaming Lips, Fog and Olivia Tremor Control.

\"\'In Debt To\' has a touch of the post-millennium \'Pet Sounds\' about it...
the most essential purchase you\'ll make by a solo artist over the next twelve months.\" [ContactMusic - 9/10]

Preceded by ‘This Is My Call To Arms’, a digital single, ‘In Debt To’ marks the emergence of an exciting new talent. Napoleon IIIrd will be on tour to support this release throughout the summer.

\"A record of unprecedented glory - the most exciting solo effort that 2007 has seen.\" [Subba-Cultcha]

Brimming with brilliant ideas and held together by consistent songwriting not common of this age... one of the most exciting solo artists in the country.\" [Drowned in Sound - 8/10]

Opening, my friends, are Team Brick, a powerful and unique musician from Bristol. His performances incorporate all kinds of instruments, equipment and techniques, including clarinet played through a loop pedal, drum abuse, chiming bells, plucked strings and a cappella rants. His vocals are similarly broad in range, encompassing throat singing, speaking in tongues and cathartic off-mic bellowing, activating the acoustic properties of his whole body. Together, these sounds create an evocative, resonant and mysterious body of work that offers a half-glimpse into an intriguing world of its own.

\"Simply enchanting. With only minimal help (the occasional piano, harmony vocal, and violin), the ex-Softies singer has crafted an intimate and sweet record that tenderly plucks heartstrings and will leave you with a warmed, if somewhat melancholy, heart.\" (All Music
Guide)

Rose Melberg fronted some of the most beloved and definitive American indiepop bands of 1990\'s including K Records legends The Softies and Tiger Trap. A productive over achiever, Rose has given us a seemingly endless avalanche of mellifluous albums to treasure since the first Tiger Trap record was released in 1993.

Her second solo album \'Cast Away The Clouds\' is her most honest and mature work to date whilst still retaining the vulnerable and delicate charm of The Softies. With the album recently giving an official UK release by Where It\'s At Is Where You Are records, Rose comes to London for here first ever show in the UK. Don\'t miss this one chance to catch the queen of American indiepop in the UK.

Rose is supported by England\'s very own reclusive janglepop genius, Harvey Williams. Harvey began recording under the name \'Another Sunny Day\' at the end of the \'80s releasing several much revered singles on the Sarah Records imprint before a stint as lead guitarist with The Field Mice.

Under his own name he released two solo albums during the \'90s favouring a more keyboard based sound to compliment his fragile voice and confessional lyrical style. Fresh from a glorious performance at the New York City Popfest, this will be a rare chance to catch Harvey performing in London.

The Dreamers are a new Anglo/Swedish project formed by Kevin Wright, formerly of Always (el Records) and also known for his music made as Mr Wright (Siesta Records) and Sarah Nyberg Pergament, also known as Action Biker. Together they create lush acoustic songs with a heavy hint of melancholy. This will be their debut UK performance.

Critically acclaimed singer/songwriter Chip Taylor is a Renaissance man whose determination and dedication have permeated all facets of his life.

In the mid \'60s, Chip started combining his country feel with R&B to write songs that, to this day, remain a staple in the American music diet. His ability to write in varied voices and styles is demonstrated in two of his best known songs, \'Wild Thing\' and \'Angel of The Morning\'.

He released six solo albums in the 70\'s and 80\'s, including Chip Taylor\'s Last Chance. Rolling Stone acclaimed this work as one of the best country albums of 1973. It was one of the forerunners of the renegade cowboy movement containing several hit songs.

Along with producing partner, Al Gorgoni, he also discovered and produced James Taylor (James Taylor and The Flying Machine), and Evie Sands (her version of \"Any Way That You Want Me\" became a big hit in 1968). They also produced Neil Diamond\'s \"Brooklyn Roads\".

He’s written songs that capture the essence of America, a trait that can only be matched by the country’s greatest novelists.\" [John Swenson, Rolling Stone]

Tom Russell\'s albums in the 21st century have been heavily influenced by his current home city, El Paso. Albums such as \'Borderland\' feature a strong Tex-Mex influence and feature songs of life on both sides of the border.

\"Tom Russell is Johnny Cash, Jim Harrison and Charles Bukowski rolled into one. I feel a great affinity with Tom Russell’s songs, for he’s writing out of the wounded heart of America.” [Lawrence Ferlinghetti]

In 2005 Russell released \'Hotwalker\', the second part of a planned \"Americana trilogy\" (the first part being \'The Man From God Knows Where\'). It was another conceptual work largely inspired by his correspondence with author Charles Bukowski. Subtitled \'A Ballad for Gone America\', the album features songs and spoken word pieces, many of the latter delivered by another friend of Bukowski, circus midget Little Jack Horton. The sampled voices of Lenny Bruce and Edward Abbey are also heard on an album which takes the form of a musical collage lamenting the passing of the America of Russell\'s childhood and the Beat generation.

In addition to working on new music, Russell also exhibits his original artwork and organises an annual trans-Canadian \"music train\" featuring workshops and live concerts aboard a vintage long-distance streamline train. This train trek was depicted in Russell\'s 2005 concert/documentary, \'Hearts on the Line\', produced by Canyon Productions, which features a concert with Russell and Andrew Hardin videotaped at Capilano College in Vancouver as well as behind the scenes footage of the music train experience.

Russell\'s latest release is the 2006 album \'Love and Fear\', a collection of original songs that were inspired by the highs and lows of his relationships with women.

14 August - P.G. “A weird and wonderful gem.” [The List]

Pat Gubler first appeared on the New York music scene in 1994, as a member of Memphis Luxure, a noise-rock band from Port Chester that also featured Matt Valentine. With
Valentine and Helen Rush, Pat went on to form Tower Recordings, a musically omnivorous ensemble that released seminal albums on the now-overlooked-but-then-indispensable
Audible Hiss label, as well as Spirit of Orr, Communion and Siltbreeze.

“Painstakingly crafted melodies speak softly, often untroubled by electricity, shuffling to a brooding Crazy Horse pulse…. A sweetly melancholic songsmith, Gubler’s tunes ache magnificently, the haunted harmonies of Helen Rush conjuring a dark Laurel Canyon vibe.” [Mojo]

Over the last ten years, the band created droning folk masterpieces that are both delicate and daunting in effect and aspiration. Tower Recordings are often referenced as one of the most important representatives of and influences on the current and much-heralded folk revival and it was under their banner that Pat first introduced his nom de plum: P.G. “A beguiling mix of classic Laurel Canyon songwriting and the woodier vibes of the old world.\" [Uncut]

Since 2001, P.G. Six has released many powerful, traditional folk and psychedelic inflected-sounds and shapes, his records infused with warm and intimate tones. Lyrically he invokes motifs from traditional folk alongside the more contemporary and personal.

The Wire included album \'The Well of Memory\' as one of the top ten albums of 2004, “a stunning seamless stream of shining tunes, dark hymns and layered drones.”

Portland, Oregon singer songwriter Alela Diane hails from the deep woods and winding rivers of Northern California Gold Rush town Nevada City. Alela grew up singing songs with her parents (both musicians) and performing in the school choir and, during a stay in San Francisco in 2003, she began teaching herself guitar and writing her first songs, blending tense, trance-like arpeggios, with warm, thick vocals and meditative lyrics about family and nature.

Her debut album ‘The Pirate’s Gospel’ is a powerful document of personal reevaluation and renewal set against the backdrop of generations past and future, mothers and fathers, life, death, and birth.

“Alela Diane\'s dread-filled song ‘The Rifle’ finds a powerful metaphor for feminine sexuality in a story of home invasion, effectively rewriting Neil Young\'s ‘Powderfinger’ from the daughter\'s perspective. Over a precisely plucked guitar that sounds both solemn and skittish, her grave intonations and the ominous backing vocals imply violence occurring just beyond her words.\" [Pitchfork]

18 August - MY DISCO\'S BETTER THAN YOUR DISCO

The Luminaire presents
A one-off London show for this remarkable Irish singer/songwriter, Adrian Crowley has recently released the single \'Bless Our Tiny Hearts\' on Fence and follows the same hallowed path as long time collaborator James Yorkston into bleak and beautiful folk. His forthcoming LP (out soon on Tin Angel) cements Crowley’s reputation as one of the most consistent songwriters around today with tales about the seas and oceans highlighting the natural depth of his music. A wonderful live act who has performed at the Green Man & Homefires festivals and toured with Adem, Hood, Damon & Naomi and Jose Gonzales.

For the record, Crowley is one of The Luminaire\'s favourite artists. In fact, he provided us with one of our ten best shows, earlier this year.

Main support, Jonquil, make magnificently melodic music that draws from traditional folk, avant-garde pop, pastoral psychedelia and off-kilter noise to achingly good effect. Jonquil are a wonderfully unique act who release ‘Lions’ in October. Their last album ‘Sunny casinos’ came 2nd in Nunuworld Music albums of 2006, in the top 20 of Norman Records and Record of the Month for Drowned in Sound. They have recently performed shows with A Silver Mt. Zion, A Hawk and A Hacksaw, Tom Brosseau, Mi & L\'au, Youthmovies & Tilly and the Wall.

“The long, sweeping melodies that litter this LP are at times achingly perfect and the laid-back orchestration and bedroom production make for a humbling experience.\" [Drowned In Sound]

\"This album is almost perfection.\" [The Fly]

Heart breaking and heart warming, raw and fragile, Dear Euphoria is minimalist music behind the soaring, ethereal voice of Elina Johansson.

“Dear Euphoria breaths frail, heart-ripping beauty of a cracking porcelain-heart and hands out grand, bittersweet punches in the stomach.” [CD Baby]

“Usually when I picture a song I see a left to right movement. Dear Euphoria songs fly from earth to the sky. They start from the ground by few dark piano notes and then Elina Johansson\'s incredible voice bring them up to the Moon like a somnambulist cloud.” [Absolut Noise]

And - proving that the Scandinavian\'s a kinder people than us Brits\' - they\'re giving away a three-track CD tonight to the first 30 people through the door.

We\'re proud to present our new Saturday night disco. Each week Jon from FC/Kahuna and This Time of Night will be joined by friends from the wide, weird and wonderful world of electronic music for an evening of dancing drinking and falling over

The only music policy we have is that we don\'t have one; if it\'s good and makes you wanna dance is all that matters to us.

An accomplished and varied crew of top DJ talent will be joining in to make sure the party\'s always on. Expect the likes of (in no particular order) Paul \'Phones\' Epworth, Ashley Beedle, Cagedbaby, Nathan Detroit, Barry Ashworth, Richard Norris, Justin Robertson, Dan Lywood, Jon Abblett and many more.

As one half of FC/Kahuna, Jon is one of the true pioneers of electronic dance music and has an impressive body of work behind him. The critically acclaimed FC/Kahuna album, \'Machine Says Yes\', went on to sell over 50,000 copies and includes such landmark tracks as \'Glitterball\', \'Hayling\' and the title track itself.

As a DJ Jon has helped to create three of the most memorable London clubs of the last 10 years. The legendary Big Kahuna Burger from 1995 featured many of today\'s biggest names in music including The Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim and Death In Vegas.

Headstart at Turnmills followed in 1999, a truly groundbreaking club experience that championed forward thinking electronic music. Dave Clarke, Andrew Weatherall, Josh Wink and Justin Robertson each joined Jon as monthly residents and Headstart provided the blueprint for many of the tech-edged nights out there.

Up next was 21st Century Bodyrockers in collaboration with Damian Lazarus and the City Rockers label, and once again Jon was at the forefront of pushing new music; Soulwax, Tiga and James Murphy from LCD Soundsystem all appeared here long before becoming the massive acts they are today.

Jon is currently in the studio working on his \'This Time Of Night\' project and has recently completed remixes for Mika, Ali Love, The Rumble Strips and Armand Van Helden.

We\'re very, very pleased to welcome Devon Sproule back to Luminaire after an utterly beguiling performance in March.

Devon\'s album \'Keep Your Silver Shined\', was produced by Jeff Romano in the heart of Virginia’s Blue Ridge mountains. It highlights Sproule’s talent for combining Appalachian, folk and jazz influences. From the front porch thump of \'Old Virginia Block to the high lonesome traditional \'The Weeping Willow\', featuring fellow Virginia-native Mary Chapin Carpenter, this record finds Sproule making another important contribution to the Great American Songbook.

\'Keep Your Silver Shined’ rings with a sweet, heartbreaking majesty; these songs are beautiful, timeless and transporting.\" [Davy Rothbart of This American Life]

Though she may thrive on the road, Keep Your Silver Shined shifts the light to Ms. Sproule’s domestic life in Charlottesville, VA, with husband and fellow musician Paul Curreri. The record includes a duet by the two, \'Eloise & Alex\', a Curreri original.

\'Keep Your Silver Shined\' proves Sproule worthy of holding her own owith anyone from Joni Mitchell to Gillian Welch, while reminding you less and less of anyone you\'ve ever heard before.” [Brady Earnhart, Poetry Professor, University of Mary Washington]

Sproule\'s previous effort, \'Upstate Songs\' (City Salvage Records) was included in Rolling Stone\'s Critics Top Albums of 2003. Critic Julie Gerstein called the record, \"perhaps the sweetest and most honest folk-pop album recorded this year,\" and added, \"Sproule\'s vocal and lyrical beauty is unmatched.\"

In \'Stop By Anytime\', sparse drums hint at a bossanova. “Stop by anytime / I’ve got the bookshelves loaded and the backyard is green and blooming / Stop by anytime / Let the humidity curl your hair / And the mulberries stain your toes / If you could come around, I could show you down / To where the knots of the day untie / So stop by, stop by anytime.”

Sproule’s own jazz standard “Let’s Go Out” playfully complains, “There’s nothing in the fridge / Nothing in the cupboard / The jelly jar is empty / And I’m plum sick of peanut butter / A groundhog ate the lettuce / Right out of the ground / Honey, let’s go out!” A clarinet picks up the tune, backed by the brushes and bass of an able rhythm section.

“Devon Sproule has noteworthy guitar chops and an undeniably soulful vocal sensibility.” [The New Yorker]

Born to hippie parents on a commune in Kingston, Ontario, Sproule claims dual citizenship with both Canada and the US. After moving between private, public and home schooling, she eventually left high school, recorded her first record, and began touring nationally -- all before the age of eighteen.

\'Keep Your Silver Shined\' presents an honest and sparkling portrait of Devon Sproule: candid, poetic and right at home.
