spnm's experimental bi-monthyl series opens with a bang, with an event headlined by Alexander's Annexe. A collaborative performing and writing trio consisting of sound technologist David Sheppard, Warp Records artist Mira Calix and contemporary music pianist Sarah Nicolls, the group aims to incorporate the sonority, beauty, physical energy and impact of live piano performance into a larger scale feast for the ears through the use of live and pre-composed electronics.
"Decidedly unsettling and extraordinarily seductive." [Uncut]
"The resulting noise is more than appealing, ranging from the minute scratching and squeaking of tiny mechanical creatures to bass heavy drones." [9 Lives]
As part of each Sound Source night this series, we’re also giving you the chance to shape one element of the night that will affect the way you experience the event. Each event we’ll have a couple of options that we’ll ask you to vote on at our online forum. Whichever option is most popular, we’ll then make happen!
For this event the options are:
1. Disposable cameras at the event for audience members to record the event as they see it.
2. Free strawberries and cream served at the event.
Even if you’re not going to come to the event, you can vote anyway, by clicking here
For details of to get involved in the 6.30 Open Source slot, email us here. Open Source is in association with Music Orbit and culminates in all audience members receiving a free CD made live at the event at the end of the evening. We are looking for electronic and vocal artists who would like to perform live (using a simple set-up) and artists who have exciting electronic material.
