"An album of jazz torch singer style, and Patsy Cline heartache. Her vocal versatility is supported by consummate songwriting skills... Think of a female Nick Lowe with a better voice." - Nigel Williamson UNCUT

Nell Bryden, has announced she will be releasing a new digital download single, Not Like Loving You, on Monday 25th January.  Taken from her album What Does It Take?, the single also features the previously unreleased 'TV Mix' of the lead track.

"An eclectic collection, it takes in country blues, Dixieland Jazz and her warm, rich voice even shows a touch of the Roberta Flacks" -Q Magazine

What Does It Take? was recorded in New Orleans and New York, and produced by Grammy-winning producer David Kershenbaum (Tracy Chapman, Tori Amos, Joe Jackson) and John Hill (MIA, Norah Jones, Shakira, Santogold). The album was originally released in late 2008 and titled Second Time Around, but has subsequently been remixed.  This new version also contains two new songs – 'What Does It Take' and 'Not Like Loving You', plus a re-recorded version of 'Pavement'.   Critics praised the 2008 release, saying it was "An album of jazz torch singer style, and Patsy Cline heartache.  Her vocal versatility is supported by consummate songwriting skills ... Think of a female Nick Lowe with a better voice" (Uncut) and "An eclectic collection, it takes in country blues, Dixieland Jazz and her warm, rich voice even shows a touch of the Roberta Flacks" (Q).

"The Country Blues of Up-and-Coming Brooklyn born Nell Bryden was worth the trip alone and I think Nell is one to be watched" - The Hitsheet

Prior to the single's release, Bryden will be doing a one-off gig at The Classic Grand, 18 Jamaica Street, Glasgow on Friday 15th January, as part of Celtic Connections.  Tickets cost £12.50 and are available from the Celtic Connection box office – 0141 353 8000.  Please note that they may be subject to a booking fee.

"In her circa 1950s cocktail frock and killer heels Nell takes bluegrass, jazz and country, mashes it up and belts it out. She can play, has a voice to die for, writes great songs and I am starting to think I hate her. Too much talent should not be allowed." -Janice Long BBC Radio 2

Bryden is fast becoming one of the most talked about and sought after new artists, building the buzz the old-fashioned way with word-of-mouth endorsements of her live shows.   With four international tours (and 500 shows) in the last 12 months under her belt, including tours with KT Tunstall, and The Counting Crows, and a self-released debut single, What Does It Take, spending 7 weeks on the BBC R2 A-list, she is definitely one to watch.

"Nell's extraordinary voice will draw you in and make you an instant fan" -Chris Hawkins BBC6

Following a chance meeting with a US Army colonel at South By South West, Bryden set aside her political preconceptions to entertain the troops in Iraq – not once, but twice – this year, and became, in the process, a Forces Sweetheart.  Award winning documentary maker Susan Cohn Rockefeller, of the Rockefeller dynasty in the USA, commissioned a team of filmmakers to go with Bryden on her second visit.  A documentary on the tour is currently in production with a view to being released next year.

"Nell Bryden is just wow!" The Ian Dempsey Show Today FM

Named Best Unsigned Artist of 2008 on Hits Daily Double, Bryden's debut single "What Does It Take" not only earned her the coveted BBC R2 A List, but also became Song of The Week on Ireland's Today FM, and secured her a Top 40 place in the Official Irish Charts.

"Nell Bryden is practically Irish now- She releases her album -What Does It Take- and what an album- 'WOW'- Not only do I love listening to Nells music but I love watching Nell perform- her album is brilliant and Nell's shows are NOT TO BE MISSED!" - Pat Kenny RTE Radio 1
