The Mystery Fax Machine Orchestra presents an evening of gothic symphonic Halloween pop with special guests William D Drake and Foster & Gilvan.

Last seen at The Luminaire in August (joining forces with Brooklyn's This Ambitious Orchestra and Bad Seeds/Grinderman's Jim Sclavunos), large-scale cabaret-pop ensemble The Mystery Fax Machine Orchestra returns for a lusciously spooky evening of gothic-romantic inspired songs. Aswell as performing their own songs and new specially-orchestrated rock settings of Edgar Allan Poe, the MFMO has invited former CARDIACS keyboard wizard William D Drake to contribute a headline set of his own idiosyncratic brand of pastoral chamber-pop in a one-off collaboration with the orchestra. And setting the eccentric tone for the evening will be Brighton-based musical duo Foster & Gilvan on banjo, trombone and saw.

Topping the bill is William D Drake, whose compositions featured on such classic Cardiacs albums as Little Man and a House and the Whole World Window, On Land and in the Sea and Songs for Ships and Irons and on North Sea Radio Orchestra's critically acclaimed 2006 debut, North Sea Radio Orchestra for whom he also performs as part of the chorus. Although Drake thrives on collaboration, it is his solo work as composer and songwriter that drives him. Yew's Paw (Onomatopoeia), Drake's solo, instrumental piano album, highlights his talent as a classical composer and pianist, whilst Briny Hooves (sheBear) reveals Drake's evolution as a songwriter, singer and frontman. Drake performs his music with Richard and James Larcombe of Stars In Battledress, and other musical cohorts from music past and present. His recent double release of the albums Yew's Paw and Briny Hooves illustrate the two sides of Mr Drake and manifest a career spanning three decades of cult status, collaboration, and musical experimentation.

In the three years since its inception, twenty-four-piece alternative ensemble The Mystery Fax Machine Orchestra has worked with such luminaries as Jarvis Cocker, Amanda Palmer, Malcolm Middleton, Robyn Hitchcock, Luke Haines and Jim Sclavunos, as well as making memorable appearances at the Latitude, Pestival and Edinburgh festivals. Frontman and songwriter/arranger Martin White is known for his accordion-playing appearances on television, radio and the live comedy and cabaret circuits, aswell as his accordion-playing work with such acts as Scarlet's Well, Les Carter and Spearmint.

Opening are Foster & Gilvan, a music hall variety act who perform their dark, brooding songs on toy accordion, melodica, banjo, ukulele and singing saw. They are Foz Foster (Monochrome Set, David Devant & His Spirit Wife) and painter Baron Gilvan. Their monthly musical puppet revue at Bom Banes is a popular fixture on the Brighton alternative cabaret scene.
