Growing is a drone-based band formed in Olympia, Washington, but currently residing in Brooklyn, New York. Consisting of the long-term pairing of Kevin Doria and Joe Denardo, as well as recent recruit Sadie Laska, Growing have become more refined and delicate of late - the rock has all but dissapeared leaving only the space. The momentum is built from glitches and jitters, gurgles and bright spots of sound, repeated and layered with warm, spacious and velvety capsules of sound. Their latest LP 'All The Way' is out now on Social Registry and follows some landmark works for the likes of Kranky, Troubleman Unlimited and Rock Action.
Nisennenmondai are one of our most favourite bands! Imagine an insane birthday party with Sun City Girls, Keiji Haino and Mika Miko all invited, things are gonna go volcanic, and that's where Nisennenmondai come in! Of all the noisy girl groups of Kansai, Tokyo, Nisennenmondai - translated as 'Year 2000 problem', a reference to the millenium bug - are the most intense and hypnotic. Himeno Sayaka (drums), Zaikawa Yuri (bass) and Takada Masako (guitar) met at the same after school music club at university in Tokyo and quickly jumped into band formation, combining pulsing, heathen rhythms and tranced-out, metallic guitar.
Team Brick is a young man from Bristol who creates errie organic drones from accordion, throat singing, hand bells and percussive clangs sent through an FX pedal chain. The overall effect is a kind of Klezmeric noise soundscape. Numerous releases are available via Invada, Victory Garden and Deafcat Records.
