Marnie Stern can shred. She's a better guitar player than 99% of the people who have ever looked at a guitar. Marnie came out of nowhere, or the Upper East Side of Manhattan to be exact, influenced by Sleater-Kinney, Hella and Don Cab's finger-tapping prowess. Having practiced guitar for "at least" three hours each day for the last however many years, she's released two super records for Kill Rock Stars - 'In Advance of the Broken Arm' and more latterly 'This Is It'. Her songs are of the earth, birthed in an organic process and with a staggering number of layers of guitar, drums, synth and vocals.

Trash Kit are a careering skip-rope no-wave trio from London, comprising two Rachels and a Ros. Mixing chaos and trippy melody in equal measure, Trash Kit are as jubliant as they are focussed. Vocals tangle with each other and highly expressive drum patterns, while guitar lines make for a serious adventure into the realms of party. So far they have a CD-R, which keeps selling out at shows, and will be working with UTR on a new record shortly.

Tartufi is Brian Gorman and Lynne Angel of San Francisco. They are friends. They are brother and sister. They are musical husband and wife. They are tar and feather. They are thunder and lightning. They are Salt N Pepa (sans Spinderella). Part aggressive, experimental-noise rock, part delicate and lovely melody, their latest full-length 'Nests of Waves and Wires' is out now on Southern.
