Tue 30th The Luminaire presents GRAVENHURST + War Against Sleep + Reigns SOLD OUT
Doors 7.30 "Utterly magnificient" [Sunday Telegraph] Gravenhurst began in 1999. Nick Talbot took the name from a song written by underground guitar-hero Dave Pajo. The first two Gravenhurst albums, 'Internal Travels' and 'Flashlight Seasons' were released through Nick's own Silent Age label. In 2000, Nick partnered Guy Bartell in establishing and maintaining the Victorian Dancehall Horror-tronica outfit, Bronnt Industries Kapital. "Brave and challenging." [Independent on Sunday 4/5] Gravenhurst signed to Warp in 2004, re-released Flashlight Seasons, and quickly followed it up with Black Holes in the Sand, a mini-album of intense, sonic, folk-influenced murder ballads. "Quite extraordinary." [Mojo 4/5] Moving sideways into rock territory, Nick and drummer Dave Collingwood recorded 'Fires in Distant Buildings' at home and at Toybox Studios in Bristol. "Gently fucking psychotic" [Vice 9/10] Gravenhurst have toured extensively in Europe and the USA, playing numerous festivals and supporting Broadcast and Belle & Sebastian. In 2006, Gravenhurst provided original music for the film 'Ein Freund Von Mir'. A new album is in preparation. War Against Sleep - main support - is the brainchild of Duncan Fleming, a true original whose acid-soaked albums elegantly sprawl the tragic and absurd. Live, expect to hear blinding songs, fizzing electronics, and taste the amphetamine sweat beads of your worst porno nightmare.
