Andy White is one of the great Irish singer-songwriters, and releases his new album 'Garageband' on the Floating World label this month. He's got his 12 string acoustic guitar in one hand and an electric mandolin in the other. He wears his Irish charm on his sleeve and always packs a poetry book in his well-travelled suitcase.
Since the iconic 'Religious Persuasion' single and 'Rave On...' album back in '86, Andy has always been on the cutting edge of folk, pop, poetry and politics, touring the world, crossing genres, and pioneering the 'i-book troubadour' trend.
He’s joined tonight by Radoslav Lorkovic (Jimmy La Fave, Odetta) from Iowa City, on piano and hammond organ. Rad has developed a style all of his own which goes from Croatia to New Orleans by way of a funky concert hall somewhere in between. He has promised to bring his accordion, providing he can carry it as hand luggage.
First on is Tracey Curtis. Having previously been a part of pop punk band Shelleys Children, Tracey's solo career was launched almost by accident when she was encouraged by her children to write a protest song against a planned by-pass that would ruin their local riverside dens and rope swings.
She went in to the studio to record 'Nowhere Left to Play', planning to send it out to local radio and TV stations. With that song recorded in three minutes and a whole hours studio time booked, she just carried on playing, and recorded all the other songs she had written at the time. This became The 'By-pass' Demo.
2006 has seen Tracey joining Chumbawamba, Attila the Stockbroker and American political singer/songwriter David Rovics on tours of the UK. Her second CD 'Picture Postcards' will be released at the end of the year and promoted with tours of the UK and the USA.
