"Melodically lush, rhythmically compelling...gloriously precise and urgent." [The Wire]

Cougar was formed in 2003 in a cold Madison, Wisconsin basement and slowly, carefully, via a revolving door of like-minded musicians centred around the renowned Youngblood Brass Band, began to craft what they call Emergency Rock, each song a collage of voices and instruments, evolving together, interacting, growing and expanding, always moving, always beautiful.

"When 'Law' came to its conclusion, I had a moment of traquility engulfing me, until I panicked, searching for the repeat setting." [Outsideleft]

It brings to mind - in places - Four Tet, Sigur Ros, Tortoise, Nick Drake and Radiohead. And also The Sea And Cake, though given that it was mixed by John McEntire, who plays with both Tortoise and The Sea & Cake, that's maybe not such a surprise.

"Law is a nearly flawless example of intelligent musical design." [XLR8R]

Cougar released their debut full length album, 'Law', on Layered Music and PIAS in 2005 and early last year, they played their UK show here at Luminaire. It was really something special. In fact, we'd go as far to say that this show tonight is the most anticipated here in a long time. From the minute they walked out the door we've been trying to get them back.

Please, don't miss this.

"This album has so much beauty that words escape me." [Liability Webzine]

Supporting are Three Trapped Tigers and Instruments, who are bright and breezy, light and easy, instrumental math-pop.

"Instruments have the guile to be bright, melodic, and well…fun. Frankly, in a musical world ruled by affected dissonance and technique over imagination, they’re a breath of fresh air."
