After ricochetting between Los Angeles and New York, Katie and Jeff [the eponymous Young People] decided to choose a city each and write their last album by sending tapes and CDRs cross-country for the other to audition. The venerable Pitchfork gave the resulting work - 'War Prayers' - a mark of 8.3/10.
"The eleven sprawling ragas on the 'War Prayers' evoke high-school poetry, cool-ass soothsaying, dirty squats, Velvet Underground shadow puppets, and the hunger of John Fante. Young People's contagious slow-core vibrancy and unwillingness to settle for an obvious post-punk narrative explodes their humble DIY into a wonderfully zealous act."
Main support from
Drowsy and Corey Dargel.
