World Domination League return for another evening of high quality bands and even higher quality DJing.
Headliners
My Sad Captains formed at the start of 2004 and have been playing regularly in London since. The music is influenced by Pavement, Grandaddy, Flaming Lips, Four Tet, Wilco, Yo La Tengo and Sparklehorse. The band make various home recordings and in the summer of 2005 recorded six songs at Kore studios in London with Chris Sheldon. The band's build up a strong following as a result of their ever-improving live show, which recently saw them support Tilly And The Wall and Broken Family Band.
Before 'em are
Ox, who self-released their incredible debut album 'Dust Bowl Revival', which rightfully hit #1 on their native Canada's college charts. Like a roughed-up, rawer Ryan Adams, the band come from a fine tradition of Americana music – The Byrds, Gram Parsons and Woody Guthrie, to name but a few. A long-deserved label deal in the USA recently saw them conquering the Billboard chart too.
And before Ox are
Scanners who have, since March 2005, toured with The Wedding Present, The Fever, Presidents of The USA, and supported The Bravery, Electric Six and Julliette Lewis and The Licks. Their debut single 'Raw' [Motel Records] was played on Radio 1 and Xfm. Their debut album is due out on DimMak [Bloc Party, The Rakes] in early 2006. Various press quotes say:
"Like an anti-Magic Numbers, this two boy, two girl outfit cut switchblade-like through the bonhomie. With punching bass lines and tribal drums they roar with gutteral fury. Their infectious tunes are both beautiful and dark as well as upbeat. Crystalline harmonies. Brooding Mazzy Star-like epics. Deathlessly sexy electronic pop."
First up are
Red Sirus, Belfast-dwellers who have toured with the likes of Snow Patrol, The Bravery, The Buzzcocks, The Ordinary Boys and Nine Black Alps, and packed headline shows across the country coupled with constant national radio airplay have ensured the band a devout and ever-increasing following. They've picked up 'Ones to Watch' tags from Radio 1, Hotpress Magazine, AU Magazine, The Telegraph and The Irish News.
