The Luminaire presents
THE NACIENTE QUARTET
+ Found
+ Blue Swerver
Doors 8.00
£5 via WeGotTickets
The Nacient Quartet are a London-based band that create angular, yet irresistably flowing instrumentals. A thrilling combination of beautifully structured bass and drums, topped by chiming guitars, Naciente Quartet's CDs and live performances suggest a unique place where The Michael Nyman Band meets A Certain Ratio [thanks to Narodni Trida
for the quote].
Main support from Found, who are Ziggy Campbell, Tommy Perman, Kev Sim and Gav Sutherland. Their frenetic live sets fuse acoustic instruments with live sampling and electronic manipulation. Beats, breaks, vocals, guitar, bass, banjo, blow piano and more, Found make music that moves from downbeat folk to acid electro welcoming the influence of the blues, modern electronics and garage rock in equal measure.
First on are Blue Swerver, a six-piece band loaded with lap-tops and flugel horns wrapped around melody and voice. Originially conceived in a small basement in Leeds as an exploration of what would happen if Chet Baker was in Massive Attack, They combine elements of jazz, blues, electronica and song-writer stlyes into subtle, spacious tunes with width and a certain quota of 'mmm'.
A kind of organic-sythetic dialecticism, if you like, and you know how dialecticism is coming back in 2006.
"Green's voice carries an empathy we are lacking from singers today." [Dr Longman, Jazz Mag]
"This band comes to you straight from the fridge!" [Max Tipper, Vibes]
"Gropejazzticklers, a new genre in the making." [Cameron Kaduna, JME] |
