Scanners have, since March 2005, toured with The Wedding Present, The Fever, Presidents of The USA, and supported The Bravery, Electric Six and Julliette Lewis and The Licks. Their debut single 'Raw' [Motel Records] was played on Radio 1 and Xfm. Their debut album is due out on DimMak [Bloc Party, The Rakes] in early 2006. Various press quotes say:
"Like an anti-Magic Numbers, this two boy, two girl outfit cut switchblade-like through the bonhomie. With punching bass lines and tribal drums they roar with gutteral fury. Their infectious tunes are both beautiful and dark as well as upbeat. Crystalline harmonies. Brooding Mazzy Star-like epics. Deathlessly sexy electronic pop."
You get the idea.
Taking time off from his dayjob in Edinburgh's 'evil country' outfit Country Teasers, Ben Wallers' The Rebel delves even deeper into his askew pop genius, scoffing at taboos and the squeamish wherever he travels. Imagine the bastard, animal-torturing son of Calvin Johnson and you'd be somewhere close.
Gliss are three sharply-dressed Californians who've been touring furiously with Billy Corgan, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Editors. They've been described as hauntingly sexy, extremely catchy with dark seductive rhythms, big bass fuzz, surfy guitar riffs and retro drum beats. Their new single, 'Rugby Road', is released in February on Tough Cookie. The band then head out to play SxSW.
The basis of Lovers Electric is two Australians, now residing in the less-sunny Hackney. After six years in another band, they've taken their indiepop to another level, having recently recorded an album they're ready to tout to labels. They're joined on drums by Fuzz Townshend of Bentley Rhythm Ace, Pop Will Eat Itself and solo fame.
