Wed 25th The Luminaire and ServiceAV present dsh blp... ... an irregular electronicish night, showcasing the very best in up-and-coming electronic music and overlapping genres CIBELLE + Robert Logan + SonVer + Tunng DJs
Doors 7.30 "This sophisticated trilingual pop record spins twitchy electronics, American freak-folk, and Brazilian traditions into a glittering tableau. [Pitchfork] This evening, Cibelle performs songs from her album 'The Shine Of Dried Electric Leaves' released on the 30th July through Crammed Discs. This night celebrates the release of the 7" single 'Green Grass' featuring a remix by Infant Joy. Brazilian-born and now Hackney resident Cibelle, draws on the Brazilian Tropicalia movement of the 1960s using phychedelia, folk and electronica, with childrens toys for percussion and, stunning vocals. Main support is "Teenage laptop trickster" [Q Magazine] Robert Logan, who follows the release of his debut album 'Cognessence' [on Slowfoot] with a performance with his live trio, showcasing booding fractured rhythms and dark electronic soundscapes. His ferocious production skills have already seen him working alongside the likes of Grace Jones and Brian Eno. "The essential last word in electronic soundscapes" [DJ Magazine] "Fraught and broody, Logan is both versatile and imaginative" [The Wire] "Taking on the stylistic might of titans such as Massive Attack and Autechre, there seems to be little out of reach for such prodigious, sure-footed talent." [Mary Anne Hobbs, Radio 1] Opening the evening are SonVer who tread a post-rock path of layers, loops and atmospherics - fusing electric cello, guitar, percussion and disembodied electronica to create their unique soundscapes. The soundtrack feel to SonVer's music has led to collaborations with film producers and theatre companies and SonVer incorporate DVD visuals from filmmaker Simon Bryant into their live sets, creating an intense and mesmerising experience for the audience. “Drifting like mist on the river, booming like ships that collide in the night, as plangent as rain on glass, and sometimes as harshly implacable as waves against the sea wall, SonVer's music melds cello, guitar, effects and samples … with nimble grace and otherworldly effect.” [Starvox] “…sometimes abstract, atonal or ambient, always weirdly unsettling, the music at times recalls, the spooky bits in A Silver Mt Zion/Godspeed... tracks, and at others captures that instinctive sense of wrongness in Aphex Twin's ambient stuff…” [Diskant.net] “For all their genre-breaking and cross pollination of sound and vision techniques, SonVer remain immensely listenable…” [TastyFanzine] |
