Thu 12th The Luminaire presents WHEAT + Shady Bard
Doors 7.30 "Anything is possible for these romantics." [The Times] We're pleased to announce a headline performance by the magically cryptic Wheat, who'll be showcasing songs from their new album 'Everyday I Said A Prayer For Kathy And Made A One Inch Square' on Ever Records. "'Every Day' sees them recapture the abstract sweetness of 'Medeiros' and its glorious follow-up 'Hope & Adams'. Yearning, melodic poetry." [**** Mojo] 'EISAPFKAMAOIS' [!] is a brave, deliberately imperfect album and sees Scott Levesque and Brendan Harney pursue the intimacy of their debut 'Medeiros' coupled with the melodic brilliance of their second album 'Hope & Adams'. "Will gladden devotees of fractured, foot-sure indie-rock." [Uncut] Rhode Island’s Wheat first came to attention following the release of their debut single 'Death Car' which was awarded NME’s coveted Single Of The Week slot but after two albums, fate conspired against them and their third album was delayed after they moved to a new label which subsequently closed days later. But they have returned, proving that their spirit remains as indefatigable and precious as always. "With a Bright Eyes inspired vision, the quartet's heartfelt songs continue to offer the most effective soul-search you'll find on CD." [NME] Main support are Shady Bard, a miniature indie orchestra whose debut album, 'From The Ground Up', is out now on Static Caravan. "Dazzling." [The Sunday Times] "The spoken word symphonies of iLiKETRAiNS and the evocative harmonies of Low...A record that becomes more engaging with every listen." [9/10 Drowned in Sound] They've shared bills with the likes of James Yorkston, Peter Bjorn & John and iLiKETRAiNS. Their song 'Treeology' has been selected as the soundtrack to MTV's global warming campaign. They play Supersonic Festival this summer alongside Mogwai and Tunng. "Songs alive with quiet texture and glowing colour...An album to sink yourself in for hours and hours...Beautiful." [Organ, Album of the Week] |
