Mon 5th The Luminaire and Knom Music presents JASON MOLINA + George Byrne
Doors 7.30 Jason Molina headlines. Molina is not one to settle. Throughout his musical career of 12 plus years under his given name, Songs: Ohia and Magnolia Electric Co., he has lived in 9 different locations and has had a dozen different backing bands on record in as many different recording environments.
His new album, 'Fading Trails' represents 3 of these incarnations and 4 of these environments. Composed of recording sessions Molina and company did with Steve Albini at his Electric Audio Studio, David Lowery at his Sound of Music Studio, and at the famous Sun Studio in Memphis, Tennessee, Fading Trails also features songs from the home recorded Shohola sessions. The essence of these recordings were extracted to create one cohesive being and thus defining what Magnolia Electric Co. truly is. Something that is hard to define. Having released his debut EP 'Iron Skies' in 2005, George has since had a busy year supporting such acts as The Church, Missy Higgins, Lior, Katie Melua, Thirsty Merc, Alex Lloyd, Epicure, Dan Brodie, Old Man River and Jen Cloher. While touring solidly, George has also penned and performed (the bulk of) his debut album 'Foreign Water'.
With trace elements of early Pink Floyd, Ryan Adams and Beck, George has continued his exploration into loose flowing and richly layered melodic folk-rock with the help of respected producers Tim Powles (The Church) and Jonathan Burnside (The Sleepy Jackson).
