Fri 22nd Loose Lips Sink Ships & The Luminaire presents SCOUT NIBLETT + Todd + Viking Moses + Tenebrous
Doors 8.00
Scout Niblett records with Steve Albini, has toured with Cat Power, and reduces audiences around the world to jibbering wrecks with the sheer force of her performances. A pretty girl in a wig, playing the drums and singing so loudly and gleefully it sounds like her lungs might burst: 'It's all for you!' she yelps onstage, like a kid offering a present of slugs and petals and drawings. It's all for you! And indeed it is. Main support [though taking the final slot on the bill] are Todd, back and armed with louder guitars and bigger knives. They've got the FUCK cranked to 11 and it's time to sort out the mice from the masters. Pick a side, fool! Many folk musicians adopt a bohemian persona to fit their music, but Viking Moses is the real deal. Living a nomadic life for nearly a decade now, Brendon Massei has released banjo and acoustic guitar albums under several names. Perpetually on tour (since 1996), he has played with Will Oldham, Cat Power, Songs: Ohia and Devendra Banhart, to name a few, yet Massei’s body of work has received little commercial or critical attention. His newest full-length under the Viking Moses moniker, the story-song cycle 'Crosses', is by far his most accomplished work, and ranks among the best of the newest crop of American folk recordings.
