"He's my favourite songwriter ever." [Johnny Cash]
"Billy Joe Shaver may be the best songwriter alive today." [Willie Nelson]

At 67, there can't be much that a road soldier like Billy Joe Shaver hasn't seen and hasn't done. He's received only a slice of the fame and recognition he deserves from the public at large, but his peers have always regarded and treated him highly.
His songs have been cut by many a great singer and many a great writer, and in 2001 at the Americana Music Convention he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for songwriting. He said he'd never received an award before. In fact, he still refers to songwriting as his hobby.

He's seen tragedy and trials that would crush lesser people, and threatened to take him down. In a two year period he lost his wife and his mother to cancer, his incredibly talented son and partner Eddy to an overdose, and he himself suffered a heart attack on stage in Texas. He was admittedly spiraling downward when his friend Kinky Friedman [currently running for govenor of Texas] convinced him to join him on tour and got him back in the saddle, where he's remained, to say the least. He's done a slew of shows since, knocked out many brilliant recordings, acted in his friend Robert Duvall's film, and completed his great autobiography.

Of course, other people have covered Shaver songs. Big people. People like Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Patty Loveless, and of course, the late Waylon Jennings, who recorded an entire album (well, all but one song) of Shaver songs – 1973’s outlaw country landmark, 'Honky Tonk Heroes'. But the best Shaver cuts have always been the ones he’s cut himself, and his records - beginning with his 1973 debut 'Old Five and Dimers Like Me' and continuing right on up to 'The Real Deal' – have earned him a place of honour amongst the greatest songwriters to ever come out of this world.
Needless to say, we're ecstatic he's gonna be gracing our stage.

As far as our main support goes, Anglo/Irish Terry Clarke is from Reading, Berkshire, west of London in the Thames valley but he sings like his heart belongs in Sligo, Ireland and his bones are happiest in Austin, Texas, he tells stories about loners, freewheelers and passionate homecomings.
Writing and singing songs that echo and reverberate with country, rockabilly, Irish laments and poetry of the street language, Clarke has established himself as one of the most important acoustic Rock/Beat/Folk writers and performers of his generation.
He'll be joined on stage by Wes McGhee. Ask around in Austin, Texas and they’ll tell you he’s the real thing - a great songwriter, musician and entertainer whose talents are undisputed, whether as band leader, guest musician or solo artist. Given that they know a bit about music in Texas, that marks Wes McGhee as special.
