Kabaret Spielraum proudly presents a night of punk mutations: Punk-Funk, Artrock, Electropunk and Jazz-Punk.
Headliners
Data Panik have risen phoenix-like from the ashes of Bis. Perhaps under-appreciated during their lifetime, their influence has endured. Whilst sharing personnel with Bis, the new members of Data Panik have brought about a fresh new sound fusing new-wave and punk with electronic dance music.
A self-released single last year sold hundreds, and the band are working on their first album. Energetically and catchy, their new material will take over your brain and make you better, faster, and stronger. Its Talking Heads meets Giorgio Moroder with a Glaswegian twist.
Main support comes from
Cartdridge who have been together since 2001 and have recently completed their debut album 'Cases'. A traditional rock band enhanced by keyboards, their music is intelligent with a quirky edge. Not unlike the Cardiacs, they have as much range in one track as many bands manage in a lifetime. Pop hooks sit alongside the wildly surreal, in an original blend of rock, jazz, latin and classical styles.
Gene Serene has been performing her brand of electropop in Berlin, New York and London to great acclaim over the past few years, fusing the attitude and style of punk bands such as X-Ray Spex with the futurism of electronic acts like the Human League. Come and hear why Mark Moore of S-Express said "Watch this girl; she's kinda got it going on."
Opening proceedings this evening are The Donald Syndrome, all the way from Huddersfield, the Paris of the North. That area is well-known for being Last of the Summer Wine country, but just like Paris it has pockets of avant-garde artistes. The band practices a genre-defying brand of psychedelia. Is is jazz? Punk? Jazz-punk? You tell us...
